Treble Harmony Brigade? – What happened to the Women’s Harmony Brigade?

The WHB was created and founded by Jennifer Newman to include women in a subsection of the barbershop world that was not available to us. But we realized there is more we can do to ensure that all singers have a space in which to brigade. With that in mind, the Board decided to open our events to all who are interested and able to sing arrangements in treble-voiced ranges. To solidify this change, WHB was rebranded as the Treble Harmony Brigade, which better represents the organization we want to be.

What does “treble” really mean?

Treble voice ranges are those sung by soprano & alto voice types in traditional choral music. The arrangements at THB events are voiced for ranges typically heard at Sweet Adelines & Harmony Incorporated events.

How do I know if I can sing in the treble range?

If you haven’t sung in a treble ensemble before, we recommend checking out YouTube videos of SAI & HI quartets like Lustre, The Buzz, Martini, Epic, Hot Pursuit, or Livewire. Try singing along: if you can match them in the same octave, you’ll likely succeed in the treble range.

Do I have to be in a registered quartet?

No, but you do need prior quartet experience. If you’ve sung in quartet formation and held your own part successfully, you are welcome! The most important thing is committing to learning & memorizing all your music so everyone enjoys singing with you.

Do I need to belong to an official barbershop organization?

Nope! THB is an independent association of treble barbershop singers. While many are members of SAI, BHS, or HI, membership is not required.

What’s included with my registration fee?

Your fee includes sheet music & learning tracks for challenging arrangements, dinner Friday, meals on Saturday, breakfast Sunday, plus the chance to sing in more quartet combinations than you can imagine!

Can my quartet sing Brigade music afterward?

Yes, but quartets must now purchase their own copies of THB music independently. Most charts are available through SAI, SMP, or BHS at a reasonable fee.

Is the THB a charitable organization?

We are a 501(c)(7) non-profit social club (not a charity). Registrations or donations are not tax deductible. THB is also a registered corporation in Maryland.

Where will the event be held?

Our events rotate locations. See NEXT BRIGADE for info with more details to come!
